According to the textbook, the Critical Path Method (CPM) can be defined as the project management tool that uses only one time factor per activity (Heizer, 2017). The critical path of a project has been identified as the longest time path needed to complete the project. This method has been first used in a joint venture of DuPont and Remington Rand Univac in 1956. DuPont had used this method in their project to construct a chemical plant and maintenance shutdown of another plant. For the calculation of CPM the UNIVAC-1 computer has been used (Kielmas, n.d.). In general, CPM has been used to ensure that the project would be successfully completed within the due date.
